CREATIVE DIRECTION + BRAND STRATEGY
As one of the original founders of Oakland Recording in 2018, it was decided that my skill sets would be useful in the development of the brand identity, design, and marketing. As a start-up, our budget was small and I had the duty to take on multiple roles on my own. I ended up developing a highly detailed business plan with the owner and founder of Oakland Recording, Steven Vasiliou. The plan was incredibly useful in gaining investors and catapulted us to begin within 6 months of the idea stage.
Students experience the record-making process from a completely hands-on approach and learn the mechanics of working in a world class studio to record various professional bands/artists while earning industry credits on commercially released works. What makes our academy unique from any other school in the country is that we educate by taking students through the actual process of making a record with professional bands in an intimate setting and let the students learn through doing. The songs we record are compiled and professionally mixed and mastered to be commercially released giving the students official industry credits.
In the music industry, your professional credits far outweigh any degree you might hold and give you an advantage over any applicate fresh out of college with no real-life experience. We bridge the gap that traditional colleges leave by giving students the experience of working in the music industry and expanding their network with industry professionals so they are better equipped and trained for work in the real world.
Students learn the invaluable skillset of working with real artists and learning how to interact with confidence with all the various artists/bands that come through the masterclass. These skills aren’t taught at any traditional school because and can only be learned by working in the industry.

THE STUDIO: AIRSHIP LABORATORIES
Airship Laboratories is a 3,000 square foot media production facility adjacent to the San Francisco Bay in Richmond, CA. Built in the late '70s, the studio has had two major retrofits: first in the '90s with the Studio A build-out and then again in 2011 when new studio owner Neil Godbole took over and invested full digital integration. The Airship features two control rooms, one of the largest and best-sounding live rooms in the Bay Area, several auxiliary and isolation rooms, a listening lounge, and a full kitchen. In addition to an airy and inviting floor-plan, the ability to bring in natural air and light allows the peaceful surroundings of the bay to fill the studio with character—the perfect environment for focused creativity.
Oakland Recording Academy educates passionate students that are willing to put in the time and effort to learn from the absolute best. It’s not a corporate money game. Staying true to our roots and keeping this school in the creative mecca that is Oakland, CA was very important to us. The best albums don’t necessarily have the most expensive, top of the line equipment. Although we have a state of the art studio, our main goal is to allow these students to create something with heart. It won't be easy. But it will be such a gratifying experience that these students will be able to take with them to excel in their future in music.

The tagline should be short and sweet, impactful, and convey our most important goal of ORA. What makes us unique? Who are we trying to market this to? Stay away from cheezy but try to make it catchy.
Logo + Reverse Logo:
The goal of the logo is to be iconic and clean but to stray away from a corporate feel.
Variations of the font: Arial, depending on where it is used. With it being a sans serif font, it evokes a modern boldness that is clean and professional, yet doesn’t take itself too seriously.
The Web Design:
Simple, Clean, Bold, Welcoming, Not competing w/content.
Clean, Modern, Cool, Not cluttered, Calming, Non-distracting.
Bold, Futuristic, Impressive, Intricate, Experimental
Enthusiastic, Approachable and Professional.
